On Tuesday, September 29, 2009, I had lunch in Winchester at Patsy's Pastry Pizzas II, 158 North Loudoun Street, on the Oldtown Pedestrian Mall. My wife and I had previously eaten several times at the original Patsy's Pastry Pizza's location on West Jubal Early Drive.

This one downtown was quite new, having been open only a month, and occupied premises that had been Bartley's Shoe Repair, an old-fashioned shop, for many years.

The building had been completely remodeled as a restaurant, and had a long, narrow room with perhaps a dozen tables; some seated two people, and some four. The walls were decorated with pictures of landscapes, and the kitchen was in the rear.

There were sidewalk tables out front, with large umbrellas protecting them from the occasional drizzle and light rain downtown was experiencing on Tuesday. Despite the newness of the place, there were patrons both inside and out while I was there.

The menu offered a selection of pizzas, but it was somewhat limited; it included whole pizzas or pizza by the slice. It also had soups and salads, and I decided on a small taco salad. The salad had a bed of lettuce, with several cherry tomatoes thrown in.

A layer of taco chips was covered by a hot beef and beans mixture, topped with shredded cheese. I had ordered the smaller of the two sizes, thinking it would be a light lunch. However, it was a hearty meal for me, and took a while to eat. This place is a keeper on my list.

Food is wonderful, service is FANTASTIC! Love the outside patio seating. Ate here for the first time with a good friend that couldn't wait to introduce me to this little gem and I'll be back for sure ;) — Anonymous Reviewer

Fantastic food and catering! I never knew how wonderful their catering was until I ordered several pizzas, dessert pizzas, and salads. They provide you with serving containers, tongs, and even plastic pizza cutters! Delicious and so impressive while not paying an arm and a leg. Delish! — Anonymous Reviewer

I would come here more often but I never know when they are open. I was very upset when I walked there today and they were closed. — Anonymous Reviewer

I am a regular customer of Patsy's but usually get carry out. I was with my family downtown Saturday and we decided to stop in for lunch. I can't tell you how disappointing the service was. After we received our food our waitress never stopped back to check on us or refill our drinks. I went to the counter to ask for a drink refill and was told that she 'would try' to get us refills. I was fuming mad after this happened, if you are paying $2 for a soda or tea the least you can do is get a refill and you shouldn't have to go find someone and ask for it. The food itself was good but I was a little disappointed that the soup was only warm and not hot. I will continue to purchase food but will not eat in. — Anonymous Reviewer

I went to Patsy's after hearing such great reviews, I had wanted to try them for a long time. It was about 6pm and the restaurant was completely empty. I had to search around to find a waiter, I think I had to ring a bell at the counter before he ever noticed me. I guess I misunderstood what these "pizzas" were like. I ordered the sausage pizza. It was like a meat pie. I could tell that the slice wasn't fresh, it was just reheated and more cheese was added on top. It was really bad. So much cheese that I felt sick after I left. On the plus side, the cauliflower soup I had was pretty good (but again, very little veggies and too much cheese) I don't think I will go back...unless maybe I understand better what it is that I am ordering. — Anonymous Reviewer

I had been to Patsy's once before and had a delicious steak and cheese pizza! I thought then that the prices were great for such good food and was really looking forward to my next slice there. For a few weeks after that I had been bugging a friend to go with me and each time we made it there.. they weren't open! (weird hours at that time) So, finally-- she and I had the opportunity to eat there (were very, very hungry) and I ordered the veggie pizza. That's what it said on the menu, "Veggie Pizza," nothing more. When I got the pizza it was cold, but apparently that was the idea. It had a sour cream-like "sauce" and topped with raw veggies, like a veggie platter. I tried to eat it; I'm not picky, I work at a restaurant and never want to be one to cause trouble, and again was very hungry.. but I could only take a couple of bites, it was so heavy on the sour cream it was making my stomach ache. I sat, unnoticed by the server, until my friend finished her two slices. My boyfriend met us and asked why I hardly touched my pizza. I told him and him knowing that I wouldn't say anything about it he very nicely approached the server with the complaint. Well, he said he was sorry and that was that. They weren't very busy and the more and more I think about it, I should have been offered another choice of pizza or even a refund (though a refund is not what I was after.. I wanted FOOD!!) Instead I received a, "may I get that out of your way then?" ..and we walked across the way to the Snow White Grill. The funny thing about that-- I asked for extra pickles there and didn't receive extra pickles, they made me another burger with lots o extra pickles to make up for it. I eat at the Snow White Grill often and while I want to go back to Patsy's, I feel so slighted by the fact that their menu was so misleading and I was offered nothing but to leave hungry that I just cannot bring myself to go back. — Anonymous Reviewer

I have been to patsy's on Jubal a bunch, but I work closer to downtown so their downtown location is close. Patsy's daughter is just wonderful and makes us feel right at home. The food is to die for and so reasonable for fresh and homemade. I look for them to become very big one day! Try it out for yourself. — Anonymous Reviewer
