I went in here the other day, not knowing what I'd find. I'd been into the other bar, Coalie's, a couple of times and it was nice. This place, however, leaves a lot to be desired.

There's no place for comfortable seating. Either you sit all the way in the back in the two booths they offer or you sit up front on high-top stools. I miss the old place and their cool old-fashioned seating.

I also agree with the other guy, there always seems to be some issue between the customers and the staff. It is always tense in there and I feel really uncomfortable, like there's gonna be a fight.

The choice of music probably doesn't help either. I like heavy metal, but not with bright lights and alcohol, especially in Winchester, where the "hardcore" scene is mostly people who've made it up as they went along... translation: they are much more likely to hurt someone than a real hardcore person. And that's saying something!!!

The drinks are ok, if you want to get hammered within your first two rounds. Maybe I'm odd, but unless I'm slamming shots, I don't want to be falling off my high stool after two drinks. Stick with beer if you have to go here.

Overall, avoid this place. If your friend is in town, looking for a rock/punk/metal joint, take 'em where they actually know how to conduct themselves: Baltimore, Washington, Richmond. Not here...

I was a huge fan of Coalie Harry's and I was hoping for a good replacement for a classic bar. Instead what I got was a polished up dive bar. Average food, average drinks. Music up so loud that I couldn't hold any conversations. Perfect if I wanted to *not* pay attention to a date... but I agree with the previous reviewer, the place looks kinda sketchy. — Anonymous Reviewer

As a former patron of Coalie Harry's, I was disappointed that it closed. When Dungbeetle's opened, I had too many high hopes for the place. The music every time I've been in there has been too loud and too metal (and I am a guitarist in a metal band!!!). There always seems to be some kind of drama between the staff and someone in the bar.

It's obvious where their focus is.

Looks a little sketchy on the outside. I guess the black curtains in the window dont really add to the look of this bar.

I don't know, maybe it is the posters in the window of various metal bands or whatever else they are advertising. Clean the windows once in a while. Very loud music (yes, I know it is a bar).

But there is a difference between loud music and LOUD MUSIC. Throwing back some drinks whilst listening to some Heavy Metal freak show is not my idea of a good time.

I was really hoping for something better when I saw a new bar taking the place of "Coalie Harry's" but now I long for the stained carpet and lackluster bartenders of yore.

One kickass bar w/ great food, beer, music and service. Thanks for making another bar option in Winchester! It needed it. — Anonymous Reviewer

My girlfriend and I went down to Dungbeetle's for dinner. We had a nice dinner but the headbanging music was very annoying. You can't enjoy yourself and carry on a conversation with the music blaring. I like all kinds of music but I just don't think that it appropriate music for a bar and grill to be playing all the time. Let's hear some classic rock and roll!!! Also, I was quite disappointed there was no happy hour special on bottled beer. Every other happy hour I've ever been to has one. — Anonymous Reviewer

The food is great, the beetle balls are sooo good. The bartenders are very personable and the whole staff is very inviting. — Anonymous Reviewer
