On Sunday, March 15, 2015, my daughter and I had lunch at the Cafe del Sol, 50 Featherbed Lane, in Winchester, Virginia. Hours are Monday-Saturday 11:00 AM-10:00 PM, and Sunday 11:00 AM-9:00 PM.
Takeout and delivery service are available, and the phone number is (540) 535-2275. Its Web page is at delsolcafes.com. Online delivery and takeout orders are accepted. Café del Sol has its own parking lot.
The entrance has a vestibule with an L-shaped padded bench. Inside, a bar on your left has eight stools and a TV screen in a corner. The front of the restaurant has a narrow room with a table and chairs for a private party of 16 or so people.
In the main dining area benches are along the right wall, facing tables with chairs on their other sides; other tables are around the floor. Four booths are along the front wall; other booths are along the back wall, and a cluster of four booths is centrally located. TV screens are in two corners of the room.
The three-fold menu's categories include Appetizers, Salads, Soups, Gourmet Pizzas, Calzone, Panini, Sandwiches, Pastas & Specialties, Wraps, Quesadillas, Sides, Kids Menu, and Desserts. One side of a separate lunch menu offers a Pick 3 Lunch Combo.
Pick No. 1 is half of a Panini, Pick No. 2 is a cup of Soup, and Pick No. 3 is a choice of a Side. This menu's flip side lists Specials, such as Sea Salted Caramel Ice Cream or Jalapeno Lava Cake, along with Entrees.
An 18% gratuity will be added to parties of 8 or more. Our server was Bridgette. From the Pasta & Specialties Menu my daughter chose the Maryland Style Crab Cake with grape tomatoes & fettuccine tossed in creamy seafood sauce, served with ciabatta garlic bread. Her beverage was a Coke.
From the Pick 3 Menu I had a Cuban half-Panini with ham & tender pulled pork, Swiss, dill pickle & mustard on ciabatta; a cup of Chicken Basil Chili, mildly spiced with seasoned ground chicken, basil & kidney beans; and Homemade Potato Chips served with Ranch Dressing. My beverage was a Mr. Pibb.
Initially the background music was not intrusive, but as more patrons arrived it was turned up to the point of being quite noticeable. This Cafe del Sol is the only one in Virginia. Maryland also has only one, but there are three in Pennsylvania.
The food and service were good, and I rate this place as a keeper. I had visited it once before on March 28, 2011. Previously this location housed a Red Hot & Blue BBQ, and featured an almost life-size statue of Elvis Presley.
